Twin Peaks Storytellers: Angelo Badalamenti Revisits “Laura Palmer’s Theme”

For those who know me well, it is likely no secret that I am a fan of Twin Peaks. Even though its story is riddled with disturbing content and perverted characters, there is something to find and claim as beautiful, and as good and true – or at the very least, as interesting.

One of these things is undoubtedly the music of Angelo Badalamenti.

“Laura’s Palmer’s Theme” not only serves as the central musical theme of the show – around which everything finds its grounding – but it iterates the mood and encompasses the arc of the story itself. It is directive and essential to Twin Peaks. The show would not be what it is without it.

Below is a conversation with the composer as he details how the song came to be. It is haunting to hear him tell it, and the track somehow seems even more mystical than before listening to this story.
